ABOUT

We are a non-profit fanzine dedicated to the legendary rock band My Chemical Romance. We are not affiliated with the band themselves, their label, or anything/anyone that has to do with them directly. We are simply fans making cool fanwork to raise money for charity.

Transgender Law Center is the largest national trans-led organization advocating self-determination for all people, which we find more important than ever with the current discriminatory legislation that continues to go into office. They also have multiple specified programs benefitting transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) people such as Black Trans Circles, Disability Project, Positively Trans (T+), TLC@SONG, and TRUTH.

This zine will be fully safe-for-work (SFW) and be printed in all-English.Check out the FAQ for more info!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL QUESTIONS

  • Q: What is a Fanzine?

  • A: A Fanzine (pronounced ZEEN) by definition is a magazine, usually produced by amateurs, for fans of a particular performer, group, or form of entertainment. It can be in either print form or pdf. Our zine will be available in both forms and likely have an option to purchase additional merch such as prints and stickers as well!

  • Q: Do the mods have previous experience?

  • A: Yes! The mods have worked on many zines separately and worked together in the past. Check out the "Contact" section for more.

  • Q: Will there be essay/written submissions?

  • A: No, the only writing involvement will be in terms of comic collaboration.

  • Q: Can art be previously made or does it have to be done specifically for the zine?

  • A: It cannot be something previously made! Art must be done specifically for the zine.

  • Q: Does my application have to include MCR fanart? I love the band but I haven't drawn them yet.

  • A: While it can be helpful to see how you portray them, no you don't have to have them in your application portfolio! We accepted MANY people in our last zine who had never drawn the subject, what matters is that we can see your art style.

  • Q: Is it okay if my portfolio doesn't have a lot of people in it even though I intend to draw people? Like if I am a furry/animal artist?

  • A: If you're not applying to draw things that are animal-based (ie. mousecat, MCR furry art in general) for the zine, we do need to see how you draw people!

  • Q: Is there a certain style/theme you're looking for?

  • A: We are looking to have a wide variety of styles present, so no! And as far as themes go, anything representative of MCR will go.

  • Q: What is the design team position?

  • A: In our last zine we brought an extra person on board to design a pattern for us to use as backdrops and we'd like to expand on that for this zine since we liked it so much. The design team will be all about collaborating on the graphic design aspects of the zine like formatting the credits pages, the foreword, page organization, and any elements that need to be drawn to make it look nice and sleek! Since that can be a pretty different skillset from illustration, we made it a separate option for applying.

  • Q: Do I have to have/use Discord to be in this zine?

  • A: It is very helpful as a form of organized and efficient contact, but you are not required to have Discord for this zine! If you do not, then you will be expected to be responsive via email since that will be the main way we are able to communicate with you.

  • Q: Is this zine digital art-only? Can I join if I only do traditional art?

  • A: As long as you can properly scan your work, traditional art is completely fine!

  • Q: What time zone will this zine be operating in when it comes to deadlines?

  • A: We'll be announcing everything with deadlines relating to the time zone of New Jersey- EST.

  • Q: What are the deadlines? Can I have more details relating to when check ins happen?

  • A: Yes, all deadlines are publicly viewable on the "Schedule" tab.

ZINE-RELATED QUESTIONS

  • Q: How many artists will be accepted into the zine?

  • A: As of right now, we are planning to accept around 40-50 artists for the zine.

  • Q: Is there a minimum age requirement to apply for the zine?

  • A: Yes! You must be 16+ to apply for the zine.

  • Q: What album is this about?

  • A: There is room for work from all of MCR's discography!

  • Q: Are there limitations for album specific works (i.e. 10 revenge, 10 tbp, 10 Danger Days, etc.)?

  • A: As of right now, no. If things seem to skew in an overbearing way when artists present their ideas we may try and even it out a little bit, but there is nothing immediately planned.

  • Q: Are there page limits for artists?

  • A: You can apply to do anywhere between 1 and 3 pages but you will be informed in an acceptance email with how many pages we would like from you. 2 pages will likely be spread illustrations or comics and 3 will pretty much just be for comics. If you intend to apply for more than one page, you definitely need a typed out pitch in the "Do you have an idea of what you'd like to do?" question on the application!

  • Q: Are collaborations allowed between artists and writers for comics? Pencilers and colorists?

  • A: Yes! There are places to make it known that you're co-applying with a writer/artist/colorist/inker/anything else on the application.

  • Q: Is shippy art alright?

  • A: We don't want anything portrayed that the band themselves would not want to see, so nothing explicitly shippy will be allowed.

  • Q: What kind of merch is planned?

  • A: We won't have this finalized until artists are picked, but we are most interested in having stickers, mini prints, posters, patches and button pins.

BUYING/SHIPPING

  • Q: Do contributors have to pay for their zine?

  • A: Just shipping! And for the extras in the bundle if they decide they want a bundle. All contributors should get a free physical and digital zine!

  • Q: When is the zine's estimated release/shipping?

  • A: As of right now, late 2022 or January 2023! It takes a while to put together projects like this!

  • Q: How much will the zine cost?

  • A: Physical zines will likely be about $20 and digital zines about $15. Bundles estimated $30-$40 depending on what merch and how much merch is in each!

  • Q: Where will the zine ship to?

  • A: Everywhere in the world! Since it is US-based, shipping will be cheapest in the US, but it should be about $11 to Canada and about $16 worldwide.
